I agree that selling online is a good opportunity to have a good income return, whether it's selling our own product or via affiliate program or even franchise. After 6 years earn online via various programs, I realize that having my own market so I can sell products online is feasible. As long as we can maintain relationship, provide a user friendly and easy to access online shopping cart, with small SEO effort and medium spend on advertising I'm sure, I'll exist online and generating small to medium - but steady money.
Also I don't need to code my own shopping cart, because there are a lot of shopping cart available on the market. One of those shopping cart is ashop commerce shopping cart software from ashop. That not only come in affordable price, but it also secure and is integrated with all major banks, gateways and third party processors including PayPal (full functionality integration). User friendly and fully customizable, and also search engine optimized.
Coding my own script for online usage is cheaper, but for me it's a time consuming. Also since I code it myself that not a savvy coder, the result maybe not as safe as script that has been coded by professionals coder and has been tested online during beta program before it launched officially.
Don't forget that if you're in doubt using 3rd party software, there are always time for free trial, just like ashop does! So you can test before you deciding to use it!
